A little Worried

When I stopped nursing Adley she started spitting up a LOT. I had every intention of nursing her but it just didn't work. We have tried so many different formulas and medicines. Nothing seems to work though. I took her to the Dr. last week telling her I wanted to see a GI Dr. The ped. told me a couple more things to try before getting a referral. She told me to add more rice cereal to her bottles. She is on the spit up formula which has added rice starch in it already. So, I added more to her bottles that day and she STILL spit up. She even spits up her solid food. Now I know every baby spits up, but not like Adley. When I say it's a LOT I MEAN A LOT! Well, that night Casey was dressing Adley for bed and she spit up and she COULD NOT breathe because all the rice cereal was choking her. I was so worried to put her to bed that night...what if she did that in her crib and I couldn't hear her?? I stopped putting rice cereal in her bottle. The ped. also prescribed Adley prevacid which is not really helping either.

Anyway...I just thought by 8 months Aldey would be slowing down a little on the spitting up. What should I do??? Take her to a GI? I don't want to spend tons and tons of $$$ (that we don't have) and just be told she will grow out of it eventually. But if there is ANYTHING we can do to help her with this issue we will do it! I feel like I am the only one dealing with this and it's starting to get very old.

She's still super cute though! Even when she spits up all over her aunt! Give her a little hug from us.

Take her to a GI dr. Even if it does cost a lot of money isn't it worth the peace of mind that you will get. Trust me it is!

could you get advice from a different pediatrician??

there has just got to be something else going on...by now you shouldn't have to thicken everything up that much, right?

Micaiah didn't have a spit up problem but my friends little girl (who they adopted at 7 months) spit everything up. She was advised to try goat's milk. She adds folic acid (I think they come in liquid gel vitamins). It worked super quickly for her. I don't know if it would work for Adley but it might be worth a try. I can ask for more details if you would like. I wouldn't worry too much about the spitting up as long as she continues to grow. (Definitely, don't ignore it though). I hope things get better soon!
Does the spitting up upset her? Cause pain?
I hope something works for you soon!

Have you ever tried Barley instead of rice cereal?

Hi,

For some reason, I stumbled across this post today. I'm not sure if your little girl is still having spit up problems or not---but I was going to share my experience. My child was born at 33 weeks, and he had lots of intestinal and spitting up troubles. We went through the regular pediatrician routes, with food diets, medications, but it didn't seem to work to me. We did see a great GI doctor at OU children's who at least validated my observations and assured us our child would grow out of it by the age of 2. But at 9 months we were already stressed. We also saw a great pediatric food allergist--but the problem wasn't a food allergy--but she did point us to the formula Similac Alimentum. Yes, it's expensive but it was worth every penny, because it helped greatly, and luckily our child did finally outgrow the problem somewhere between 1-2 years and as we switched to solids, not baby food. Good luck! and hang in there Mom. trust your instincts!!
